My Major, Certificates and Involvements
I am a Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) major who was accepted in the combined BPA/MPA degree program together with a Latin American and Caribbean Studies & National Security Studies certificates. These certificates were a fundamental part of my experience as a student. Even though I was already familiar with many of the subjects, I gained significant knowledge from all the new information I was exposed to. My overall experience with the FIU international setting and the variety of courses I took made me more aware of today’s worldwide problems and the approach I can take to be actively engaged in solutions.
I have been blessed with the opportunity of attend many lectures, conversations, workshops and events from different schools and topics. The variety of these events have definitely contributed to my growth. I had the opportunity to hear from a Prime Minister talk about the future of democracy, webinars about local problems or listening to Peace Corps returned volunteers and many other events that I attended. I joined the E-Board of UNWomen on my junior year and stayed with the club throughout my whole senior year, working towards equal rights for women and children, locally and worldwide. This is one of the causes that is the closest to my heart and that helped me connect my academic experience with hands-on activism towards justice for the most vulnerable.
The Global Learning (GL) courses catalog offered a wide variety of classes to choose from, so I took two classes that were part of my Bachelors of Public Administration core curriculum, other courses fullfilled my National Security Studies Certificate and I had the opportunity to take a religious course which I was always interested in taking.
